Rent

Rent first. Buy later, if it still makes sense.

A short stay can answer questions that a sales brochure cannot. Use it to test the area, the journey, the park style or the campervan routine before putting serious money into ownership.

Holiday-home research stay

Try the area before you own there

Shortlist real ownership parks first, then stay nearby if you can. Check the drive, local shops, evening atmosphere, wet-weather reality and whether you would genuinely want to keep returning.

If the south coast is on your shortlist, Shorefield Holidays is a useful place to test the idea with a real stay across its Hampshire and Dorset parks. Check the current dates, accommodation and prices directly before booking.

Campervan & motorhome hire

Try touring before buying a van

Hiring for a real trip tells you far more than sitting in a conversion at a dealer: whether the bed setup annoys you, whether storage works, how you cope with narrow roads and whether you actually enjoy the campsite routine.

Compare mileage limits, insurance excess, collection, included equipment and vehicle layout before choosing a rental.

Make the rental useful

Treat it as a test, not just a holiday

Travel: Would you happily make the journey several times a year?

Location: Do you still like the area once you have done the obvious tourist bits?

Park: Walk beyond the show units and look at the ordinary pitches, roads and facilities.

Costs: Ask for current site fees and the other annual charges owners actually pay.

Rules: Check season dates, subletting, pets, age limits and resale terms.

Reality: Notice what annoys you. That is often more useful than what impresses you.
